Corn Gluten

info

This concern applies to cats specifically.

Corn Gluten is an ingredient found in a small number of pet foods for cats. Based on veterinary research, this ingredient has generally considered low-risk but good to know about. Below, we explain what we found and list the products that include it.

Why it's flagged

A plant-based protein used to bump up the protein number on the label at a lower cost. Cats are obligate carnivores, so they do best with animal-based proteins that have the amino acids they actually need, like taurine, which corn protein doesn't provide.
